Rumors have been swirling about a new Samsung device called the Droid Prime. Unfortunately, since there hasn’t been an official announcement from Samsung yet, tech websites from all over the world have been able to generate their own rumors about the upcoming Droid Prime.
Some of these rumors are understandable (like the fact that the Droid Prime would feature an upgraded 1.5GHz dual-core processor), while others are a little crazier (like the rumor that the Droid Prime would be able to dock with tablets).
If you’re looking for a Droid Prime rumor round-up, you’ve found it. Here are some of the most popular Droid Prime rumors:
Droid Prime rumor 1: The screen will feature 720p AMOLED technology
This rumor is understandable. GottaBeMobile.com suggests that the Droid Prime will have a 4.5-inch 720p Super AMOLED HD display. With that sort of crystal clear technology, the Droid Prime’s visuals are sure to impress.
Droid Prime rumor2: It will cost $550
Another rumor from the same article stated that the Droid Prime will be priced around $550 for an unlocked edition. That puts it at the same level as an Apple iPhone. Look for the Droid Prime to be priced at around $199 for a contract version.
Droid Prime rumor 3: The CPU will have 1.5GHz dual-core processing power
The final rumor from the GottaBeMobile article suggests that the Droid Prime will feature a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, which would make it an extremely powerful smartphone indeed. In fact, the Droid Prime might just be the most powerful smartphone on the market when it eventually is released, especially considering that the iPhone 4s only has a dual-core 0.8GHz CPU.
Droid Prime rumor 4: It will feature the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system
This is the most reliable rumor of all. Android’s 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system is extremely powerful, and existing smartphones have yet to take full advantage of it. Look for the Droid Prime to fully capitalize on Android 4.0 whenever it comes out, including the recent 4.1 Jelly Bean upgrade.
Droid Prime rumor 5: it will be able to dock with tablets
One screenshot forever changed the way people would view the Droid Prime. The screenshot was shown at a joint Google-Samsung event last fall, and it appeared to show a simple curved smartphone.
However, a closer look by a website called Droid-Life.com revealed something else: was there a tablet docking on top of that smartphone? Could the Droid Prime feature the ability to dock with a tablet via special connector pins? It seems crazy, especially since the photo suggests that the Droid Prime would connect to the center of the tablet. But we’ve certainly seen stranger things in the tech world.
What do you think? Here’s the picture Droid-Life.com released from the event (the text has been added in and the picture has been brightened):
Summary: Droid Prime rumors
Other than that, the Droid Prime rumor front has been pretty quiet. Nobody is quite sure of the Prime’s full list of features or technical specifications, and until Samsung makes an official announcement about the Droid Prime, we’ll have to wait.
